FIR Registered Under BNS; Police Launch Investigation into Workplace Harassment Allegations
A private hospital assistant manager in Gurugram has been arrested after a woman colleague accused him of physically assaulting, harassing, and repeatedly pressuring her to resign while she was on duty. The incident has raised fresh concerns over workplace safety and employee harassment within healthcare institutions.
According to police, the complainant approached the Sector 50 Police Station and alleged that her team leader misbehaved with her during duty hours on June 25. She claimed that the accused slapped her multiple times and pushed her following an altercation at the hospital.
Woman Alleges Repeated Harassment and Pressure to Quit Job
In her complaint, the woman further alleged that the accused had previously behaved inappropriately with her and had been repeatedly forcing her to resign from her position. Based on her statement, police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Sections 115(2), 79, and 74 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Assistant Manager Arrested; Investigation Underway
Following the registration of the FIR, police arrested the accused during the investigation. Officials identified him as a 36-year-old assistant manager at the private hospital and a native of Punjab.
Confirming the arrest, police said statements of the complainant, the accused, and other concerned persons are being recorded as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police Continue Probe
Investigators said further legal action will be taken based on the evidence collected during the course of the investigation. Authorities have not disclosed additional details regarding the circumstances leading to the alleged assault.
Concerns Over Safety in Healthcare Workplaces
The incident comes amid growing concerns over the safety and security of healthcare workers in India. Recently, another incident drew attention after a second-year postgraduate resident doctor at Niloufer Hospital was allegedly assaulted by attendants of a child while on duty in the Respiratory Intensive Care Unit (RICU), highlighting the increasing instances of workplace violence and harassment in healthcare settings.
