Mysuru: In a significant contribution to neonatal care, the Gunamba Maternity and Child Welfare Trust donated ten baby warmers and vital neonatal monitors to Cheluvamba Hospital, a teaching hospital under Mysuru Medical College and Research Institute (MMCRI).
The donation was handed over by Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, president and trustee of the Trust and a member of the erstwhile Mysuru royal family. The event took place on Wednesday at the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in the presence of other trustees, Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy, MMCRI Dean and Director K.R. Dakshayani, and officials from the Department of Health and Family Welfare.
Supporting High-Risk Neonatal Care
Cheluvamba Hospital is one of the busiest maternity hospitals in Karnataka, handling 40-50 deliveries per day, with nearly 80% of cases classified as high-risk pregnancies. On average, around 550 critically ill infants require NICU care every month. The donated medical equipment aims to enhance neonatal care and improve survival rates for newborns.
The Trust’s other trustees include M. Lakshminarayan, Varchusvin S.S. Raje Urs M.L., Tejashree, Ajit Kumar Raje Urs, and Ananthawardhana.
Hospital officials present at the event included Superintendent Sudha, HoD (OBG) Lakhmikanth, Resident Medical Officer Shivaramnkrishna, and Reproductive Child Health Care Officer Siraj.
