RMOs File Police Complaints Over Intimidation, Verbal Abuse And Interference In Hospital Functioning
In a disturbing development from Gujarat, two separate incidents of alleged harassment, intimidation and disruption of hospital operations have been reported from Jamnagar and Gondal towns, where resident medical officers (RMOs) at government hospitals accused individuals of threatening doctors, misbehaving with staff and interfering with official hospital duties.
Jamnagar RMO Accuses Man Of Threats And Repeated Harassment
According to reports, a 59-year-old resident medical officer at Guru Gobind Singh Hospital in Jamnagar lodged a complaint at the B Division police station against an individual under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 221 and 351(2).
The incident allegedly took place on May 16 at around 10:30 am when the accused repeatedly entered the doctor’s office during an important meeting related to patient services. The accused allegedly engaged in a heated argument, used abusive and derogatory language and recorded videos on a mobile phone, disrupting official proceedings inside the hospital.
The doctor further alleged that the accused had been frequently visiting the hospital with complaints and harassing him through repeated late-night phone calls. He also claimed that the individual attempted to create pressure by filing RTI applications and complaints through the 104 Health Helpline.
According to the complaint, the accused allegedly threatened to implicate the doctor in atrocity-related cases and made remarks aimed at damaging his professional reputation. Several doctors, hospital employees and security personnel were reportedly present during the incident.
The complainant, who has reportedly served in the Gujarat Health Service for over 33 years, informed police that he feared for his safety and requested protection. Police officials confirmed that an investigation is currently underway.
Gondal Government Hospital Doctor Files FIR Against Two Individuals
In another similar incident, a 28-year-old resident medical officer at Gondal Government Hospital in Rajkot district filed a complaint at the Gondal City A Division police station against two individuals.
The FIR was registered under BNS Sections 221, 352, 351(3) and 54. According to the complaint, the accused had allegedly been visiting the hospital unnecessarily over the past year, misbehaving with doctors and staff members, issuing threats and recording videos to harass medical personnel.
The doctor alleged that the duo frequently entered the hospital claiming to conduct inspections and verbally abused hospital employees. The complaint further stated that the accused threatened to defame doctors and staff members on social media platforms and obstructed hospital functioning by issuing death threats to medical personnel.
Police have initiated further investigation into the matter.
