MUMBAI — In a historic display of medical unity, Bayer India has secured a Guinness World Record for the largest live unified pledge by healthcare professionals. On April 9, 2026, the pharmaceutical giant successfully mobilised 700 doctors from across the country to participate in a synchronized advocacy campaign focused on maternal and prenatal nutrition.
A Unified Voice for Women’s Nutrition
The record-breaking event took place within a strictly timed one-hour window, during which 700 doctors simultaneously recorded a powerful pledge: “I declare my support for 100% nutrition by recommending the right essential micronutrients to every woman”.
- Live Hub: The initiative was showcased at the Annual Conference of the All-India Congress of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (AICOG), where over 300 specialists recorded their support live at the Bayer booth, while others joined virtually from across India.
- The Goal: Termed the “One Nation, 100% Nutrition” movement, the campaign seeks to transition from basic iron and folic acid (IFA) supplementation to a holistic “IFA-plus” approach.
Addressing India’s “Silent Crisis”
According to Sandeep Verma, Cluster Head for South Asia at Bayer Consumer Health, India faces one of the world’s highest burdens of maternal nutritional deficiencies. The campaign advocates for a phased supplementation strategy tailored to different stages of pregnancy:
- First Trimester: Focus on folate, vitamin B12, and pyridoxine.
- Second Trimester Onward: Incorporation of iron, calcium, and DHA through the lactation period.
Strategic Alignment
The initiative is designed to support government efforts like Mission Poshan 2.0, aiming to bridge the critical gap between medical awareness and community-level action. By leveraging the collective authority of hundreds of gynaecologists and obstetricians, Bayer aims to influence clinical practices and family decision-making regarding prenatal care.
