FIR filed after woman was allegedly denied admission over Rs 10 lakh deposit at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital
Pune: A case of criminal negligence has been registered against Dr. Sushrut Ghaisas, a consulting gynecologist formerly attached to Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, over the death of 37-year-old Tanisha Bhise, who was allegedly denied admission due to non-payment of a ₹10 lakh advance.
Bhise, the pregnant wife of BJP MLA Amit Gorkhe’s personal secretary, died on March 31 after delivering twins at a different hospital. Her family alleged that Dr. Ghaisas refused treatment at the Mangeshkar hospital in the last week of March, citing the deposit issue.
The Alankar Police registered an FIR under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (relating to death caused by negligence) based on a complaint by Bhise’s sister-in-law and findings from a five-member committee of Sassoon General Hospital.
The committee’s final report, submitted on Saturday, concluded that Dr. Ghaisas showed “insensitivity and medical negligence” by failing to admit Bhise despite the high-risk nature of her case, ultimately contributing to her death.
Dr. Ghaisas had resigned from the hospital following the controversy. No arrests have been made yet.
