Lucknow : In light of the major fire at Lokbandhu Hospital in Lucknow, authorities in Prayagraj have initiated a comprehensive fire safety audit at 22 hospitals across various regions of the district. This audit is being conducted by the fire department to ensure that hospitals are prepared in case of an emergency.

Key Points:

  • Audit Coverage: The fire safety checks are being carried out in 22 hospitals, including those in city areas, trans-Ganga, and trans-Yamuna pockets of Prayagraj. The hospitals being audited are spread across locations like Naini, Soraon, Phaphamau, Meja, Handia, Phulpur, Koraon, and Bara.
  • Fire Safety Measures: Teams from the fire department have been formed to inspect both private and government hospitals. The audit will focus on evaluating fire-fighting arrangements, updating outdated equipment, and ensuring electrical safety. Hospitals have been asked to replace old electrical wiring and upgrade fire-fighting gear.
  • Electric Safety Audits: The fire department is also emphasizing the need for electric safety audits to prevent incidents related to faulty wiring, which can often cause short circuits due to an increased electrical load.
  • Compliance with Regulations: Officials are ensuring that hospitals have obtained the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Electrical Safety Directorate. Those failing to meet the required safety standards may face further action.

The Chief Fire Officer (CFO) of Prayagraj, RK Pandey, has outlined a four-point safety guideline urging authorities to maintain clear exit routes and require fire safety systems at all establishments, including hospitals.

This initiative highlights the need for rigorous fire safety measures in hospitals, especially after the recent fire incidents, and aims to prevent similar disasters in the future.
