A fire broke out in the blood bank of the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, Chandigarh, early Tuesday morning. The incident was swiftly brought under control by hospital security personnel, and no injuries or casualties were reported, according to officials.

The fire was first noticed by staff members on duty, who immediately raised an alarm. Security personnel responded promptly and managed to extinguish the flames before the situation could escalate.

Senior Health Officials Rush to Site

Following the incident, senior hospital authorities, including the Director Health Services, Medical Superintendent, Deputy Medical Superintendent, and the In-Charge of the Blood Bank, reached the spot to assess the situation and oversee safety measures.

In an official statement, authorities confirmed that all necessary precautions were taken to secure the premises and ensure uninterrupted blood bank services.

Preliminary Probe Points to AC Short Circuit

Initial investigations suggest that the fire may have originated due to a short circuit in an air-conditioning unit located behind the blood bank facility.

Officials stated that a detailed assessment is underway to determine the exact cause of the incident and evaluate any potential damage.

Blood Stocks and Equipment Remain Safe

Hospital authorities reassured the public that there was no significant damage to blood stocks, medical equipment, records, or infrastructure.

“No loss of life or injury has been reported. There is also no significant damage to blood stocks, equipment, records, or infrastructure at this stage,” the official statement said.

Recent Hospital Fire Incidents Raise Safety Concerns

The Chandigarh incident comes days after a fire broke out at Aveksha Hospital in Bengaluru during the early hours of Wednesday. Around 14 patients, including ICU patients, were safely evacuated after the blaze erupted at the private healthcare facility on MS Palya Road in Singapura.

According to police, the fire occurred around 3:15 am, and fire department personnel quickly brought the situation under control. No injuries were reported among patients or hospital staff.

Authorities Emphasize Fire Safety Preparedness

The latest incidents have once again highlighted the importance of stringent fire safety measures in healthcare facilities. Authorities continue to monitor the situation at GMSH Chandigarh while ensuring that critical healthcare services remain unaffected.
