Health Officials Uncover Fraudulent Medical Practice in Doddakannahalli
Bengaluru: A man impersonating a family physician and operating a clinic under false pretences in Doddakannahalli for almost ten years is now absconding. The Karnataka Health Department launched an investigation after receiving an anonymous complaint in March 2025 alleging that the accused, claiming to be an Ayurvedic doctor, was illegally prescribing allopathic medicines and steroid injections causing harm to patients.
Investigation Reveals Forged Credentials and Dual Identity
The clinic, named “Health Line Poly Clinic,” displayed two names on its signboard—one listing MBBS and MD qualifications, the other identifying the operator as a “family physician.” Prescription pads mirrored this discrepancy. Health officials issued notices on April 3, demanding proof of medical qualifications, which the accused failed to provide.
Clinic Registered as Ayurveda Facility, But Certificate Forged
An April 15 inspection of the clinic’s registration revealed it was officially registered as an Ayurveda clinic (valid August 2023 to August 2028). However, the certificate submitted by the accused was found to be forged.
Clinic Closure and Police Complaint Filed
By May 5, the clinic was shut down and the signboard removed. Locals informed officials that the operator had disappeared days earlier. Subsequently, Dr. B.B. Raghunath, KR Pura Taluk Health Officer, filed a police complaint. A case was registered under the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges of cheating, forgery, and personation.
