Dimapur – In a significant crackdown, Dimapur Police have arrested a man accused of impersonating a doctor and practising medicine without the requisite qualifications or registration.
The accused, a resident of NST Colony, was found operating as a medical professional in Nagaland’s commercial hub, Dimapur, without possessing a recognised medical degree or being registered with the Nagaland Medical Council (NMC).
The arrest came after the NMC filed a formal complaint, prompting a police investigation that confirmed the allegations, according to a statement issued by Dimapur Commissioner of Police on Friday.
Case Registered, Probe Underway
Police have registered a case under relevant legal provisions. Investigators are now working to uncover the extent of the impersonation, including any harm caused to unsuspecting patients treated by the fake practitioner.
Public Advisory Issued
The Dimapur Police also issued a public advisory, urging residents to be cautious when seeking medical care. Authorities emphasised the importance of verifying a doctor’s credentials, including their State Medical Council registration number.
“This is a collective responsibility to ensure a safe and trusted medical environment in our community,” the police said, appealing to the public to report any suspicious individuals practising without proper documentation.
The incident has raised serious concerns over medical fraud and highlighted the need for stricter enforcement and public awareness to safeguard public health.
