State Now Has 22 NQAS-Certified Centres; Health Minister Hails Milestone in Public Healthcare

Aizawl: In a major boost to Mizoram’s public health infrastructure, eight government-run health facilities have been newly accredited under the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS), placing them among the best performing public hospitals in the country.

The announcement was made by Dr. Lily Chhakchhuak, Mission Director of the National Health Mission (NHM), under the State Health & Family Welfare Department. The newly certified centres and their NQAS scores are:

  • Pangzawl PHC – 96.26%
  • Chhuarlung PHC – 95.30%
  • Chhingchhip PHC – 93.80%
  • Hrangchalkawn UPHC – 93.35%
  • Kawnpui PHC – 91.42%
  • Cherhlun PHC – 89.66%
  • Sangau PHC – 89.03%
  • Lungsen PHC – 88.22%

With this latest recognition, Mizoram now boasts a total of 19 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and 3 Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs) that have achieved national-level NQAS certification. A further 12 government facilities, currently holding state-level certification, are undergoing the national assessment process, according to news agency UNI.

Minister’s Remarks:

Health Minister Lalrinpuii lauded the achievement, calling it a milestone in public healthcare delivery for the state. She credited the dedication of healthcare professionals at every level and emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining high standards for patient care.

“This recognition ensures that our citizens get the maximum benefit of quality services. It is a testament to the unwavering efforts of our medical teams and administration,” the minister said.

Advancements in State Medical Services:

As previously reported by Medical Dialogues, Mizoram is also preparing to launch tissue transplantation procedures in government hospitals. The initiative will begin at Aizawl Civil Hospital, where a cardiology operation theatre and Cath Lab are being installed.

Minister Lalrinpuii also announced that kidney transplants will soon be possible at the hospital, as it now has a dedicated operation theatre and has obtained the required licence from the central government.

These developments mark a significant transformation in the state’s medical landscape, signaling its rise as a regional healthcare leader in the Northeast.
