Dr. R V Asokan Elected as the President of the Indian Medical Association for 2024

In a significant development for the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Dr. R V Asokan, the former national secretary general of the IMA, has been elected as the President for the year 2024.  Dr. Asokan, a stalwart in the medical field, hails from Kerala and has been associated with the IMA for the past 40 years. He has held several key positions within the association, demonstrating his commitment and dedication to the medical profession.

One of his notable contributions during his tenure as the president of the Kerala IMA from 1997 to 2000 was the launch of the biomedical waste management project, IMAGE (IMA Goes Eco-friendly). This initiative, based at Kanjikodu in Palakkadu, aimed at the scientific management of biomedical waste generated from healthcare facilities in Kerala, marking a significant step towards environmental sustainability.

Dr. Asokan, originally from Tamil Nadu, began his illustrious medical career at Punalur in Kollam district in Kerala 40 years ago. He established the popular Deen Hospital, which has since become a beacon of healthcare in the region. Dr. Asokan prepares to take on his new role, the medical fraternity looks forward to his leadership and guidance. His vast experience and dedication to the field are expected to steer the IMA towards new heights in the coming year.
