
Nagpur: The Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) has appointed Dr. Indrajit Khandekar, a renowned forensic medicine expert, to scrutinize medical negligence cases. The decision was taken by Dr. Vinky Rughwani, Administrator of MMC.
Responsibilities of Dr. Khandekar
- Case Review: He will examine medical negligence complaints filed directly with MMC against doctors or cases referred by consumer or criminal courts for expert opinion.
- Assessment Standards: Dr. Khandekar will review medical records to determine if there were deviations from the expected standards of medical care.
- Expert Opinion: He will provide professional insights into whether medical negligence occurred during the treatment of the patient.
Dr. Khandekar’s Accomplishments
Currently serving as a professor in the Forensic Medicine Department at Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sewagram-Wardha, Dr. Khandekar has an impressive track record:
- Virginity Test Ban: Played a pivotal role in banning the finger virginity test and removing its unscientific content from the national medical curriculum.
- Post-Mortem Reforms: Advocated for the computerization of post-mortem reports, reducing unnecessary post-mortem examinations, and improving the system’s efficiency.
