Event Raises Awareness on Eye Donation and Visual Impairment
Kanpur: In a remarkable initiative to promote eye donation awareness, a ‘Walk for Blindness’ rally was organized at Motijheel on Saturday by Yug Dadhichi Dehdan Sansthan in collaboration with GSVM Medical College.
Blindfold Walk Highlights Challenges of the Visually Impaired
The event saw active participation from dignitaries, medical students, and faculty members, who took part in a blindfold walk to experience the difficulties faced by visually impaired individuals. Programme coordinator Manoj Sengar emphasized the importance of the initiative in fostering empathy and encouraging eye donation.
Medical Experts Advocate for Eye Donation
Leading the campaign, general secretary Madhavi Sengar and GSVM’s ophthalmology department head, Dr. Shalini Mohan, highlighted advancements in eye preservation and the presence of a well-equipped eye bank that ensures round-the-clock cornea storage and donation services.
Prominent Leaders Extend Support
Former Kanpur MP and ex-Mayor Capt. Jagatveer Singh Dron inaugurated the rally, while MLA Neelima Katiyar, who pledged body and eye donation in 2020, reiterated her commitment and urged public participation.
The rally commenced from Kargil Gate, passed through Tulsi Upvan, and concluded back at the starting point, spreading a powerful message on the significance of eye donation in restoring vision to the blind.
