Medical Services Halted as Doctors Protest Against Recent Assaults in Chennai
Coimbatore : Following two violent attacks on doctors in Chennai within hours of each other, the Coimbatore chapter of the Tamil Nadu Government Doctors Association has announced a district-wide suspension of all surgeries, outpatient services, and non-emergency medical services on Thursday.
Details of the Attacks
The first incident involved Dr. Balaji Jaganathan, an oncologist at the Kalaignar Centenary Super-Speciality Hospital in Guindy, who was critically injured after being attacked by a patient’s attendant. Later, a second assault targeted Dr. P. Hariharan, a psychiatrist at Government Stanley Hospital, who was attacked by a mentally challenged individual.
Planned Protest
Doctors and house surgeons are set to protest in front of the CMCH Dean’s office at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday to condemn the violence against healthcare professionals.
