Muktsar, Punjab: In a disturbing incident of violence against medical professionals, doctors and staff at Malwa Ortho Hospital on Muktsar-Kot Kapura Road were attacked by a group of armed miscreants after protesting a man’s molestation of a female employee. The attackers also vandalized hospital property during the assault.
Dr. Arun Jain, the hospital’s director, reported that the accused man followed a female employee into the hospital, demanded her mobile number, and began molesting her. When the hospital staff intervened, the man left but returned shortly after with a group of six to seven armed associates, carrying swords and sticks.
The group proceeded to vandalize the hospital, shattering glass windows and attempting to break open a door. They also tried to attack Dr. Jain, but were stopped by one of the staff members and a patient’s caretaker, who came to his defense. Both intervenors were assaulted and suffered injuries. The attackers then fled the scene.
In response to the assault, the hospital staff, supported by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), staged a sit-in protest by blocking the road outside the hospital for nearly two hours, demanding strict action against the attackers. They expressed concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the town.
Dr. Jain explained to Amar Ujala that the incident occurred around 10 am when the female staff member was arriving for duty. After the man was stopped from molesting her, he returned with his associates and began the attack.
The police were notified, and DSP Satnam Singh arrived at the scene. He assured that action would be taken against the miscreants. “The main accused has been identified, and several criminal cases are already registered against him,” said DSP Singh. An FIR has been filed, and the police are working to arrest the accused and his accomplices soon.
