Chennai: The Legal Coordination Committee for Government Doctors (LCC) has urged Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to provide a government job to the widow of Dr. Vivekanandan, a government doctor who passed away during the COVID-19 pandemic on January 26.
Relief Promised Yet Undelivered
As the opposition leader during the previous government, Chief Minister Stalin had demanded ₹1 crore as relief for the families of government doctors who died while serving during the pandemic. However, the LCC president, S. Perumal Pillai, pointed out that the current government has yet to fulfill this promise or offer any financial assistance to these families.
Widow’s Pleas Ignored
Dr. Vivekanandan’s wife has approached Health Minister Ma. Subramanian thrice, pleading for a job while accompanied by her children. Despite assurances of swift action within a week, no progress has been made. LCC criticized the minister for prioritizing jobs for individuals recovering from alcohol addiction while ignoring this grieving family.
High Court Order Unheeded
A High Court directive to provide a job to the widow remains unimplemented. During the recent Assembly session, BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan highlighted this issue, yet the Health Minister dismissed it by citing internal family disputes involving Dr. Vivekanandan. LCC condemned this statement as “dishonorable and baseless,” adding to the family’s distress.
LCC’s Request to the CM
The LCC has called on the Chief Minister to announce a job for the widow on Republic Day and implement pay band 4 at 12 years for government doctors.
