The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bathinda, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Indore, to strengthen healthcare innovation through collaborative research and medical technology development. The partnership aims to combine clinical expertise with engineering innovation to develop affordable, patient-centric healthcare solutions and address real-world healthcare challenges.
Focus on Collaborative Research and Innovation
Under the MoU, the two premier institutions will jointly undertake interdisciplinary research, medical technology innovation, technology translation, and capacity-building initiatives. The collaboration is intended to encourage joint research efforts that bridge the gap between clinical practice and engineering expertise.
By bringing together doctors, researchers, and engineers, the partnership aims to create practical solutions for pressing healthcare challenges through innovation and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Advancing Medical Technology Development
The partnership will support prototype development, intellectual property (IP) generation, technology commercialisation, faculty and student exchange programmes, and other collaborative initiatives. Officials said the alliance is expected to accelerate the development of innovative healthcare technologies that can improve patient care.
The institutions also plan to promote the development of advanced diagnostic tools, medical devices, and digital health solutions, with the goal of making modern healthcare technologies more accessible and affordable for patients.

The MoU was signed under the leadership of Dr Ratan Gupta, Executive Director of AIIMS Bathinda, and Prof Suhas Joshi, Director of IIT Indore.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Gupta highlighted the need for closer collaboration between clinicians, researchers, and engineers to develop innovative and cost-effective healthcare technologies. Prof Joshi reaffirmed IIT Indore’s commitment to working with AIIMS Bathinda to strengthen healthcare innovation through interdisciplinary research.
