Doctors at KIMS Kurnool Successfully Perform Three Complex Surgeries Simultaneously

Kurnool: In a remarkable medical achievement, doctors at KIMS Hospital, Kurnool, performed three intricate surgeries simultaneously on a critically ill patient on Saturday. The patient, whose condition had been deemed inoperable by major hospitals in Hyderabad, has now fully stabilized.

Dr. S.J. Janakiram, consultant surgical gastroenterologist and specialist in advanced laparoscopic, HPB, and bariatric surgery at KIMS Kurnool, explained the case of 50-year-old farmer Chandramohan from Tadipatri. Chandramohan had been suffering from severe abdominal pain and had sought help from multiple hospitals, including those in Hyderabad, where only temporary relief was provided. His condition worsened, causing unbearable pain and preventing him from eating.

Upon evaluation at KIMS Kurnool, diagnostic tests revealed multiple complications, including gallbladder stones and severe intestinal damage from a previous surgery. A CT scan and colonoscopy confirmed the findings, and his albumin levels were critically low at 1.9 (normal range: 3.5–5), indicating poor nutritional health.

“To improve his condition, we advised a gradual increase in food intake to raise his albumin levels. Once they reached 2.8, we planned the high-risk surgeries with the family’s consent,” Dr. Janakiram said.

The three surgeries involved gallbladder removal, repositioning an exteriorized section of the intestine, and excising the damaged intestinal segment followed by reattachment of the upper and lower sections.

Following the procedures, Chandramohan’s condition has stabilized, and he is now able to eat normally. “This successful outcome underscores the expertise of our team and our commitment to tackling challenging cases,” Dr. Janakiram added.
