Court Delivers Stringent Punishment Under POCSO Act
Shillong: A special POCSO court has sentenced a 58-year-old doctor to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor at his clinic in West Khasi Hills district in July 2020.
Following the FIR lodged on July 27, 2020, the accused was arrested and placed under judicial custody. The court also imposed a fine of ₹1.25 lakh, with an additional six months imprisonment in case of non-payment.
Two Others Convicted for Similar Crimes
In separate cases, the court convicted:
🔹 Buksar Lyngdoh Lyngkhoi (37) from Dombahkseh village – Sentenced to 20 years in jail with a fine of ₹15,000 for sexually assaulting a minor on January 4, 2023.
🔹 Phrangsngi Ryntathiang (27) from Dongkiingding village – Sentenced to three years in jail with a fine of ₹10,000 for an assault on July 4, 2023.
Strong Legal Action Against Child Abuse
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to strict enforcement of child protection laws, ensuring severe punishment for offenders under the POCSO Act.
