Udala Government Hospital Physician Allegedly Linked to Wildlife Trafficking

Balasore: The Balasore Forest Department arrested Dr. Maheshwar Das, a physician at Udala Government Hospital in Mayurbhanj district, for his alleged involvement in a tiger skin smuggling racket. The arrest follows evidence of financial transactions linking the doctor to the accused traffickers.

Role in Wildlife Contraband Smuggling Uncovered

Dr. Das is suspected of playing a key role in the smuggling operation. The Chandipur Forest Department detained and interrogated him before forwarding him to court. Investigations suggest his involvement in facilitating the illicit wildlife trade, including financial dealings with the accused.

Seizure and Ongoing Investigation

The arrest comes after a significant operation on December 23, when 11 individuals were detained in Soro with tiger skin and firearms. Authorities have since expanded the probe, uncovering connections to areas including Bhadrak, Soro, Basudevpur, Kaptipada, and Udala.

Forest officials believe more individuals are linked to the trafficking network. Clues about the racket’s broader presence are being actively pursued.

Wildlife Protection in Focus

This case underscores the growing threat to wildlife from illegal trafficking networks and highlights the need for strict vigilance and enforcement. Further arrests are expected as the investigation progresses.
