Female Army Officer Alleges Molestation, Abuse and Threats Outside COD Mess; Accused Doctor Arrested

A 26-year-old doctor has been arrested by Dehu Road Police for allegedly molesting and threatening a female Army Lieutenant Colonel near the Central Ordnance Depot (COD) Mess in Pune’s Dehu Road area, officials said on Monday.

According to police, the incident took place on the night of June 7 when the complainant, an Army Lieutenant Colonel residing in the COD residential complex, visited the COD Mess. At around 9 PM, after leaving the premises, she was walking towards her car parked across the road when the accused allegedly approached her.

Police stated that the accused allegedly rushed towards the officer, molested her, verbally abused her, and threatened her with serious consequences before fleeing the spot.

Following the incident, the officer approached the Dehu Road Police Station and lodged a complaint late Sunday night. Based on her statement, police registered a case under Sections 74, 79, and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which relate to assault or criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty, insulting the modesty of a woman through words or gestures, and criminal intimidation.

The accused, a resident of Dehu Road, was arrested on Sunday and produced before a local court on Monday.

Speaking about the case, Dehu Road Police Station in-charge Vikram Bansode said that the complainant had exited the COD Mess and was heading towards her parked vehicle when the alleged incident occurred. He confirmed that a case has been registered and the accused has been arrested and presented before the court.

Investigators are currently verifying the sequence of events and collecting evidence as part of the ongoing probe. Police officials said the motive behind the alleged incident is yet to be determined.

During the investigation, it also emerged that the accused’s brother serves as an Army doctor and resides in the same COD residential complex where the complainant lives. However, police have not indicated any connection between that fact and the alleged offence.

The investigation remains underway, and further details are awaited.
