Biswanath: A government hospital doctor in Assam’s Biswanath district has been accused of demanding a Rs 25,000 bribe for the postmortem reports of a man’s son and grandson.

The incident occurred at Gohpur, where Chidananda Saikia alleged that hospital doctors asked for money in the name of an ambulance and a sweeper.

Saikia’s tragedy unfolded on November 7, when his son shockingly shot his seven-year-old child before taking his own life. Amid his grief, Saikia claimed he faced an additional shock when doctors at the hospital openly demanded money for the postmortem report.

Devastated by the ordeal, Saikia has appealed to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to intervene.

Biswanath district SP Subhasish Baruah has ordered an inquiry into the matter, with Additional SP Kulendra Nath Deka leading the investigation.
