Focus on Upgrading Traditional Healthcare

New Delhi: In a significant move to strengthen traditional healthcare systems, Delhi Health Minister Dr Pankaj Singh on Wednesday inaugurated a new Dental Care Unit at the Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College. The initiative is part of the Delhi government’s larger plan to modernise infrastructure at Ayurveda and Unani hospitals across the city.

The newly inaugurated unit will provide Outpatient Department (OPD) services every Tuesday and Thursday.

Push for AYUSH-Based Healthcare

Highlighting the importance of traditional medicine, Singh said, “Our Ayurvedic and Unani medical sciences are a treasure that the world has learned from India. Yet, we are not promoting and developing AYUSH to the extent required in Delhi and across the nation. Together, we will make Delhi a role model for the nation in traditional systems of medicine like Ayurveda and Unani.”

New AYUSH Mental Health Programme

The minister also announced the rollout of a special AYUSH-based Mental Health and Stress Management Programme, aimed at addressing rising cases of stress and anxiety. He said the initiative will not only benefit Delhi residents but also set a global benchmark in mental health care, showcasing how traditional systems can effectively heal the mind.

₹56 Crore Allocation Under NAM

As part of its broader strategy, the Delhi government has secured an allocation of ₹56 crore for FY 2025–26 under the National AYUSH Mission (NAM). Singh said the funds would be utilised for infrastructure, staffing, training, and service delivery across AYUSH facilities.

The recent formation of the Delhi State AYUSH Society (DSAS), approved by the Delhi Cabinet, will ensure effective implementation of NAM in the capital.
