New Delhi: In a significant step toward boosting healthcare capacity, Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh on Wednesday directed all government hospitals to set up critical care blocks under the PM-Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) scheme. The announcement came during a high-level review meeting with senior Health Department officials.
According to an official statement, Singh said the new critical care units will enhance emergency response and ensure access to advanced life-saving care across the capital. “Officials have been instructed to identify suitable spaces within hospitals for the immediate establishment of these blocks,” he said.
Dialysis Expansion, Monsoon Preparedness, and Medicine Stock
Citing the need to reduce patient transfers between hospitals, the Health Minister also called for an expedited installation of dialysis machines, with a target of increasing the number to over 300.
With the monsoon season approaching, Singh emphasized the need to maintain an uninterrupted supply of essential medicines. He ordered emergency procurement processes to be prioritized and completed within deadlines to prevent any shortage at public hospitals.
Push for Digital Integration and Mental Health Services
The Health Minister also directed all government hospitals to complete registration under the Hospital Information Management System (HIMS), in line with the government’s digital health protocols.
In a bid to improve diagnostic infrastructure, Singh revealed plans to establish model health labs across Delhi to offer a comprehensive range of essential tests to the public.
On the mental healthcare front, Singh announced the expansion of brain health clinics modeled on the successful facility at Indira Gandhi Hospital in Dwarka. “The clinic at Dwarka has seen a positive response. We will now establish similar centres in all districts to provide timely mental health treatment,” he said.
