Vidarbha Shines at Maharashtra Arogya Sanman 2025 on World Health Day

Nagpur: The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Daga Hospital, Nagpur, has been named the best in Maharashtra at the prestigious Maharashtra Arogya Sanman 2025 awards, held in Mumbai on World Health Day. The recognition comes as part of the state government’s initiative to honour excellence in public healthcare delivery.

Vidarbha emerged as a standout performer at the awards, bagging multiple accolades across various health service categories:

  • Chandrapur Dialysis Centre: Ranked first in the state for the highest number of in-house dialysis procedures.
  • Gondia District: Secured the top spot for performance under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme.
  • Nagpur District: Awarded first prize for exemplary work in Sickle Cell Disease Control.
  • Pandharkawda Sub-District Hospital (Yavatmal): Honoured for the best Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre (NRC).
  • Akola District Health Officer: Recognised for best district-level health administration.

New Health Initiatives Rolled Out

Marking the occasion, the Maharashtra government launched nine major public health schemes aimed at increasing accessibility, transparency, and efficiency in healthcare services, particularly in underserved and tribal regions like Vidarbha.

Key highlights include:

  • e-Sushrut Health Management Information System: Will digitise patient records and streamline hospital administration at facilities like GMCH and IGGMCH.
  • Online Portal under the Bombay Nursing Home Registration Act: Eases registration for private clinics, encouraging formal healthcare access.
  • Cervical Cancer Awareness Campaign (Ages 9–14): A targeted initiative in rural schools, where preventive screening remains limited.
  • MJPJAY Expansion to ESIS Hospitals: Now includes Nagpur’s ESIS Hospital in Ganeshpeth, offering free treatment to the general public beyond insured workers.
  • Statewide CPR Training Programme: To improve emergency medical response in rural and tribal areas.

Focus on Tribal and Rural Health

The government’s intensified focus on Vidarbha’s healthcare landscape also includes regular evaluations of government health institutions to ensure accountability and improved service delivery, especially in districts like Gadchiroli and Nandurbar.

Legislative Council Chairperson Prof Ram Shinde, present at the event, stressed the importance of ensuring that the benefits of government healthcare schemes reach the most marginalised communities.

Health Minister Prakash Abitkar highlighted that families can cut medical expenses by up to 70% through these public health services. “With free diagnostics such as X-rays, sonography, MRI, ECG, and dialysis now available at government hospitals, we are committed to equitable healthcare for all,” he said.

The recognition for Daga Hospital’s NICU and other Vidarbha-based facilities underscores the region’s growing role as a model for public health innovation and delivery in Maharashtra.
