World Hypertension League Honours Renowned Neurologist for Global Leadership in Population Risk Reduction
Dr. Jeyaraj Pandian, Principal of Christian Medical College Ludhiana and President of the World Stroke Organization, has been conferred with the prestigious “Daniel Lackland Excellence Award in Collaboration and Advocacy for Population Hypertension Risk Reduction” by the World Hypertension League.
The award recognises individuals demonstrating exceptional leadership in assessing and reducing population risks associated with cardiovascular diseases, stroke, and renal disorders. The honour highlights Dr. Pandian’s longstanding contribution to advancing hypertension control and stroke prevention, especially across low- and middle-income countries.
Recognised for Global Advocacy and Stroke Prevention Efforts
Over the years, Dr. Pandian has played a significant role in strengthening international advocacy for stroke prevention through sustained engagement with the World Stroke Organization since 2008. He has also contributed extensively to World Health Organization-led strategies and collaborative initiatives, including the Global Stroke Action Coalition.
His leadership has been instrumental in connecting international health policy frameworks with practical community-level healthcare implementation. His work has particularly focused on improving frontline healthcare systems and promoting effective stroke prevention programmes globally.
Distinguished Career in Neurology and Medical Education
Dr. Jeyaraj Pandian has been serving as Principal of Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, since April 2018. He is widely recognised for his expertise in clinical neurology, stroke care, research, and medical education.
He completed his MBBS from Tirunelveli Medical College under Madurai Kamaraj University and pursued MD in Internal Medicine from Christian Medical College, Ludhiana. He later obtained his DM in Neurology from Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology.
Dr. Pandian has also earned several prestigious international fellowships, including FRACP, FRCP, FESO, FWSO, and FNAMS in recognition of his contributions to neurology and stroke medicine.
Extensive National and International Experience
Before becoming Principal, Dr. Pandian served as Consultant Neurologist and Head of the Department of Neurology at CMC Ludhiana from 2011 to March 2018. He also worked as Deputy Director of Research and Development at the institution between 2014 and 2017.
Internationally, he served as Stroke and Neurology Fellow at the Stroke Unit, Department of Neurology, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital from 2004 to 2007.
Congratulating Dr. Pandian on the achievement, CMC authorities stated that his work has consistently focused on translating global healthcare vision into meaningful local impact. They noted his contributions to global health policy development, India’s Stroke Action Plan, and strengthening healthcare capacity at the grassroots level.
