Contractual Doctors’ Absence Causes 12-Hour Crisis
Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has promised an inquiry into the disruption at the ICU of BMC-run HBT Trauma Care Hospital in Jogeshwari, where a contractual team of doctors failed to report to duty last week. The absence of doctors for 12 hours led to patient transfers and intervention from civic authorities.
Assurance of Action and Recruitment
Addressing the issue in the state council, CM Fadnavis responded to a question by Shiv Sena-UBT MLA Milind Narvekar, stating that necessary action would be taken and a directive for new recruitments would be issued soon.
“The hospital had hired doctors and nurses on contract, but they stopped working before their term ended, creating serious problems for patients,” Narvekar said.
Legal Action Against Private Contractor
A senior doctor, speaking anonymously, revealed that a police complaint was filed against the private company responsible for running the ICU, as its appointed doctors stopped reporting to work without notice.
Despite the disruption, officials confirmed that no casualties occurred during the crisis. Meanwhile, BMC authorities have remained tight-lipped on the issue.
