Paediatrician Loses Life on Way to Duty
Chennai witnessed a tragic road accident in which Dr. S. Manikumar, a paediatrician at Chengalpattu Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH), lost his life after being hit by a government-run bus on Wednesday morning. His colleague, Dr. Praveen Kumar, also from the same hospital, sustained multiple fractures but is currently stable.
Bus Lost Control, Crashed Into Private Vehicle
The incident occurred around 8:30 am near Rathinam Kinaru three-road junction. The government bus, reportedly coming from Kalpakkam, allegedly suffered brake failure. It veered off the road, ran over pedestrians, hit the two doctors walking towards the hospital, and then collided with a private bus coming from the opposite direction.
Seventeen Others Injured
In addition to the doctors, 17 bystanders and passengers sustained injuries. Several were admitted to Chengalpattu GMCH’s intensive care unit, while one passenger has been discharged.
Minister Pays Tribute
Health Minister Ma Subramanian visited the hospital, paid floral tribute to Dr. Manikumar, and met the injured patients, including Dr. Praveen Kumar. He expressed condolences, noting that Dr. Manikumar was a dedicated doctor who regularly commuted from Chromepet and walked daily from Chengalpattu Railway Station to the hospital.
