Cuttack:The SCB Medical College and Hospital rusticated a senior resident doctor who was accused of raping two women patients. The senior resident doctor pursuing DM in Cardiology department of the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack was arrested based on the allegations of the family members of the victims.
On the basis of the allegation of the victim, SCB Medical College and Hospital instituted a three-member committee consisting of Professor Santosh Kumar Mishra, Professor Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra, and SCB Dean & Principal Roma Rattan to conduct the enquiry. The three-member committee found that the allegation against the senior resident doctor were true. Prof. (Dr.) Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra said that the decision to rusticate the senior resident doctor was taken at a high-level meeting after a probe report recommended to take action against the accused doctor. Noteworthy, two women patients had gone to the hospital for ECHO test. The resident doctor allegedly assaulted them sexually. Later, the family members filed a case in this regard at the Manglabag police station.
Thane: The Thane police have registered a case against a doctor for allegedly touching a 22-year-old female patient inappropriately, an official said. The doctor from the Shil-Phata area allegedly misbehaved with the patient on the pretext of checking her when she went to his clinic on August 20, the official said.
The doctor has been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 74 (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 76 (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), the official from Shil-Daighar police station said.
Junagadh, Gujarat: The Chief District Health Officer (CDHO) enquiry report indicted two gynaecologists of a private hospital on account of negligence while performing C Sections. The two gynaecologists have been booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder after four women they operated on during childbirth suffered kidney failures, resulting in the deaths of two last year. The B Division police station filed the case against the two gynaecologists at Health Plus Hospital, based on a complaint from 28-year-old Akash Miyatra. In his complaint, Akash stated that his wife, Hiral, was one of the four women who underwent caesarean sections at the hospital last May and later developed an infection that led to kidney failure.
Following Hiral’s death on September 12 last year, Akash filed a complaint at the C Division police station, which registered a case of accidental death on September 13 and began an inquiry. On September 29, Akash and the husbands of three other women who also suffered kidney failure petitioned Junagadh Chief District Health Officer Dr. Manoj Sutariya, calling for action against Health Plus Hospital. The state government then formed a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate the matter. In May of this year, the CDHO shared the SIT report with Akash. Later Akash went to police again stating that the report concluded that the incident of kidney failure was due to the negligence of the doctors and hospital management.
The two doctors and hospital officials have been charged under sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 308 (attempting culpable homicide), and 114 (abetting the crime) of the Indian Penal Code.
Chennai: A dentist has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act for allegedly sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl at his clinic in Pudukottai town, Tamil Nadu. According to reports and social media posts, the victim and her mother visited the dentist for dental issue of the teenager. After examining the girl, the dentist instructed her mother to purchase some medicines from a nearby pharmacy located approximately four kms away. Seizing this opportunity, it is alleged that the dentist sexually assaulted the girl while her mother was away. The girl managed to send a distress call to her mother, informing her about the incident. Upon receiving the message, the mother rushed back to the clinic and confronted the dentist. Realizing the severity of the situation, the mother of teenager immediately filed a police complaint with the all-women police station.
Following the complaint, the police conducted an investigation and subsequently arrested the dentist under relevant sections of the POCSO Act.
New Delhi: The Delhi Police in the illegal kidney transplant racket have sought details of the documentation process of organ transplantation from Noida’s health department days after seven people, including three Bangladeshi nationals and a female doctor, were arrested. The Delhi Crime Branch has sought the details from the Noida health department and also written a letter to the office of the district chief medical officer. As per the police officials as the investigation in kidney racket is progressing it appears that other doctors and medical staff are also involved and part of the alleged racket. The details sought by the crime branch include the procedure which the private hospitals follow for kidney or any other organ transplant in Noida.
The Delhi Police Crime Branch last week acting on a tip-off had nabbed at least seven people, including a 50-year-old Delhi-based woman doctor in connection with an alleged kidney transplant racket running across Bangladesh and the Delhi-NCR region. The woman doctor then working as a kidney transplant surgeon on a “fee-for-service basis” in the Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in southeast Delhi, was allegedly involved in the transplant surgeries of around 15 people from Bangladesh between 2021 and 2023, the police said. The surgeon has allegedly conducted the surgeries in Noida-based Yathartha Hospital where she was a visiting consultant. The other arrested persons included an assistant of the doctor, identified as Vikram Singh, and three Bangladeshi nationals identified as Rasel, Mohammad Sumon Miyan and Mohammad Rokon alias Rahul Sarkar alias Bijay Mondal.
Pratapgarh (UP): A doctor who is also the director of the private hospital was booked for allegedly sexually harassing 25 year old patient. The patient has accused the doctor of raping the woman in the operation theatre of the medical facility while she was unconscious. Speaking to reporters the Circle Officer of Patti Anand Kumar Rai identified the accused as director and doctor of Ashish Hospital and Surgical Centre located in Dhakwa Bazaar in the Aspur Devsara area. The police official said the woman, who went to the hospital with her mother, was advised by the doctor to undergo surgery for a lump in her breast. The procedure was carried out three days ago and she was later discharged, police said, adding that she was called to the hospital again to get her bandages changed. The doctor took her to the operation theatre, where he allegedly drugged her and raped her, the officer said. Pratapgarh police have registered a case against the doctor based on a complaint by the woman’s father, Rai added.
Pune: The failure of the Pune police and Directorate of Medical Education (DME) to provide official documents to Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) has led to the MMC not being able to take action against Dr. Ajay Taware and Dr. Shrihari Halnor despite issuing notices to them for violation of ethics of medical practitioner. The MMC has issued notice to both the doctors in the now infamous Pune Porsche case wherein it is being alleged that the two doctors allegedly swap the blood sample of the accused teen before testing for alcohol content.
Dr. Vinky Rughwani, the administrator of MMC has said “ We have already written to the Pune Commissioner of Police and sent reminders, but we are yet to hear from them. We have also written to DMER. We need official documents to initiate action against them. Before we taken action, we must follow the principle of natural justice, according to which we must hear the other side as well. We have received response from the two accused doctors but await any official document that is incriminating proof of their actions.”

New Delhi: The police has arrested at least seven people, including a 50-year-old Delhi-based woman doctor, in connection with an alleged international kidney transplant racket running across Bangladesh and the Delhi-NCR region.The Delhi Police Crime Branch had been working on the case for two months after receiving tip-off about the racket. The police official have pointed out that a majority of the donors and recipients are from Bangladesh brought to India on the basis of fake documents for the surgeries. The woman doctor is working as a kidney transplant surgeon on a “fee-for-service basis” in the Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in southeast Delhi, was allegedly involved in the transplant surgeries of around 15 people from Bangladesh between 2021 and 2023, they said. The woman surgeon allegedly conducted the surgeries in Noida-based Yathartha Hospital where she was a visiting consultant.
The other arrested persons included an assistant of the doctor, identified as Vikram Singh, and three Bangladeshi nationals identified as Rasel, Mihammad Sumon Miyan and Mohammad Rokon alias Rahul Sarkar alias Bijay Mondal. According to the officials, incriminating materials including 23 stamps, forged files of patients and donors of kidney transplantation, and forged Aadhaar cards were recovered from the possession of the accused persons. According to the police Rasel is the kingpin of this network, who came to India in 2019 and donated his Kidney to one Bangladeshi patient. After his surgery, Rasel started the racket. He would coordinate between different stakeholders and established contact with prospective kidney donors from Bangladesh and patients. One of his associates, Ifti, who is in Bangladesh, used to get the donors. He would usually get 20-25 per cent commission after the transplantation, which generally costs a patient Rs 25-30 lakh.
Rasel had taken a house on rent in Jasola, near the Apollo Hospital, from where he, Rokon, Sumon Miya, and one Ratesh Pal of Tripura were arrested on June 16. At their instance, three kidney seekers and three donors were identified. The police said that during interrogation, all four accused confessed that they targeted the kidney patients hailing from Bangladesh by visiting the dialysis centres in that country.They would arrange donors from Bangladesh, taking benefit of their poor financial background and exploited them on the pretext of providing them job in India.The accused would then confiscate the donors’ passports after reaching India. Thereafter, Rasel, with the help of Sumon Miyan, Rokon and Ratesh Pal, got prepared the forged documents of patients and donors to show the relationship between them, as it is mandatory that only the close relative can be a donor said the police.
Vikram, personal assistant of the surgeon used to assist in preparation of the patient files and was instrumental in getting the affidavit of patient and donor prepared, they said, adding that Vikram used to take Rs 20,000 per patient. Rasel also disclosed the name of Mohammad Sharique, who used to take appointment of patients from surgeon and get the pathological tests of the donors and seekers done taking Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000 per patient. According to the police, Rasel, Vikram and Sharique disclosed that the surgeon had complete knowledge about each and every illegal act being done by the accused on the basis of forged papers. Accordingly, on July 1, the surgeon was also arrested in the case.Investigation is on to identify the number of transplants conducted in the racket, the police said.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson of the Yathartha Hospital stated that the Noida hospital has no direct association with woman surgeon as she is a part of some other hospital. “For all our procedures, we ensure the highest ethical standards, prioritize patient safety and comply with all clinical and government protocols. We have cooperated fully with all investigations, and there have been no findings of wrongdoing against our hospital or our practices,” the spokesperson of the Yathartha Hospital said in a statement.
The Indraprastha Apollo Hospital (IAH) also released its press statement in which it said the Delhi Police’s Crime Branch department had taken custody of a doctor who had been engaged on a fee-for-service basis and not on the hospital’s payroll.”This action is subsequent to an investigation pertaining to procedures carried out at another hospital and prima-facie not related to any action or acts at IAH. Given this action by the police, the IAH had placed the doctor under suspension,” the statement said.It further stated that IAH was previously approached by the Crime Branch seeking certain information as part of an investigation, which was duly provided. “We reiterate our utmost commitment to adhering to all laws, rules and regulations in relation to clinical and administrative processes for all patients – national or international. The wider Apollo Hospitals Group has done more than 25,000 transplants and has followed all laws and processes in letter and spirit. Our processes have been reviewed by competent government authorities who have upheld our record of compliance,” it said. The IAH will provide its fullest cooperation to investigative authorities on this matter, the statement added.
Kasaragod, Kerala: A 57 year old doctor has been booked under various section of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for misbehaving with a teenage girl when she had sought treatment at his private clinic in Kasaragod.
The family members of the girl have alleged that the incident had had happened in February this year and the family lodged a complaint against the doctor on Friday. As per the complaint lodged by the family members, the doctor had misbehaved with the girl when she had sought treatment at the clinic for some ailment in Thrikaripur. An FIR was registered as soon as the complaint was received and the accused was booked under various Sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, police said. Further action would be decided after carrying out an investigation, police added.
Mumbai: Dr. Bhushan Rathi, one of the 42 doctors found practicing with a fake degree in 2021 has applied for anticipatory bail before the session courts on the ground that after three years of the case being registered the police started calling and harassing him. The session court has rejected the bail plea of Dr. Bhushan Rathi.
The May 2011 registration by Rathi, 38, with the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) was valid till 2017. The licence was renewed till 2021. Sometime in 2014, he sought additional qualification registration for Diploma in Child Health (DCH). Two years later, in 2016, during the scrutiny of documents submitted by him (specifically the passing certificate of his additional qualification of College of Physicians & Surgeons; CPS), the council staff observed discrepancy in signature of the signing authority. The council staff sought verification from the college, which denied issuing the certificate to Rathi, among others. The matter was placed before the executive committee in March 2016, with notices to all involved candidates (42) who had obtained additional qualification by procuring and producing forged and fabricated passing documents.
During the course of inquiry, after hearing the candidates, the executive committee observed that a serious offence had been committed by Rathi and others. Hence, the council had suspended their practice for a year. After three years of the case being registered, Rathi claimed that the police started calling and harassing him. The prosecution, however, sought Rathi’s custodial interrogation and claimed that the investigating officer conducted a detailed probe, finding Rathi’s role in the crime. While rejecting Rathi’s plea for anticipatory bail, the court observed that the crime was registered on August 12, 2021, but records show that the accused not only submitted a fake certificate for additional qualification registration but also used it as true before the inquiry committee as well as the public at large.
