Nagpur : An IPS officer has been booked in Nagpur for allegedly raping a 28-year-old woman doctor after falsely promising to marry her, police confirmed on Sunday.
The woman filed the complaint at Imamwada Police Station on April 11. According to her statement, she and the accused connected on Instagram in November 2022. At the time, the man was preparing for the UPSC exams, while she was pursuing her MBBS.
The online interaction reportedly evolved into regular phone conversations, leading to a relationship. The accused allegedly promised marriage and established a physical relationship with her.
However, after his selection into the Indian Police Service (IPS), the man began avoiding the woman and eventually refused to marry her. Attempts to contact his family were also unsuccessful, prompting the woman to approach the police.
Based on her complaint, police registered a rape case on April 12. A detailed investigation is currently underway.
