Raid at Private Clinic
Bishalgarh, Tripura: A doctor allegedly practising medicine using a fake MD degree has come under investigation after the Bishalgarh subdivision administration conducted a raid at a private medical chamber in Durganagar market on Wednesday.
Discrepancies in Qualifications
The doctor, a resident of Gajaria under Bishalgarh subdivision, claimed to have completed his MBBS from Russia and possessed all certificates. However, authorities noticed discrepancies in the qualifications mentioned on his prescriptions, raising suspicions about his credentials.
Unauthorized Use of MD Title
During verification, it was found that the doctor had been issuing prescriptions using the title MD (General Medicine), a qualification he is not legally authorised to use. Cross-checking the registration number TSMC 003693 with Tripura State Medical Council (TSMC) records revealed that he holds only an MBBS degree.
False Association with Hospital
Officials also discovered that prescription pads falsely stated the doctor’s association with GBP Hospital. The administration confirmed that this claim was entirely misleading and had no basis in fact.
Administrative Raid and Findings
A joint team comprising the Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Medical Officer and officials from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office, including the DCM, carried out the raid around 4 pm. The inspection revealed that the clinic had been operating for a long period without the mandatory permissions.
Legal Implications of Misrepresentation
Administrative officials told Tripura Info that although the doctor may have completed his MBBS from Russia, using an MD degree on prescriptions and presenting himself as a specialist without valid recognition from the Tripura Medical Council is illegal and punishable under medical practice regulations.
Suspension of Medical Practice
Following the raid, the doctor has been ordered to immediately suspend all medical practice until valid licenses and authorisation documents are produced. The administration emphasized strict adherence to medical regulations to protect patients.
Further Action Expected
Legal and administrative proceedings have been initiated, and the matter is expected to be referred to higher medical regulatory authorities for necessary action. Authorities have warned that strict measures will be taken against any person misrepresenting medical qualifications in Tripura.
