Expansion of Cancer Care Facilities in Andhra Pradesh
Hyderabad: The Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital’s new unit in Amaravati will be ready for inauguration in the next eight months, announced Tollywood actor Nandamuri Balakrishna, who serves as the chairman and managing director of the hospital’s Board of Trustees.
The state-of-the-art cancer hospital is being developed in Thulluru, Amaravati, on 15 acres of land allotted by the Andhra Pradesh government in 2018.
Balakrishna made this announcement on International Childhood Cancer Day, while inaugurating the pediatric oncology unit at the hospital’s Hyderabad facility.
A Legacy of Cancer Care
The Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital was originally founded in memory of Basavatarakam, the wife of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and legendary actor Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR), who succumbed to cancer.
Now, under the leadership of NTR’s son Balakrishna, also a member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, the hospital continues to expand, providing advanced cancer diagnosis and treatment.
The Hyderabad facility, established by the Nandamuri Basavataraka Ramarao Memorial Cancer Foundation (NBTRCF) in collaboration with the Indo-American Cancer Organisation (IACO), USA, has been a leading cancer treatment center in India for over two decades.
Musical Gift: Porsche Car for Composer Thaman
During the event, renowned music director and playback singer S Thaman also attended the inauguration. In a special gesture, Balakrishna gifted a Porsche car to Thaman, acknowledging his contributions to the industry.
“Thaman is like my younger brother. I have gifted him a car for delivering four consecutive musical hits. Our journey together will continue in the future,” said Balayya, as Balakrishna is popularly known.
The upcoming Amaravati unit is expected to significantly enhance cancer treatment services in Andhra Pradesh, providing world-class healthcare to patients in the region.
