Ashta Civil Hospital Set for Major Expansion, 220-Bed Proposal Sent to Govt17 new doctors posted; Sonography services to begin soon; CT scan machine to be revived under new tender

Ashta (Madhya Pradesh): In a significant boost to healthcare infrastructure in Sehore district, the 100-bed Ashta Civil Hospital is likely to be expanded to a 220-bed facility. A formal proposal for the upgrade has been sent to the state government, local officials confirmed.

The hospital, which has long faced a shortage of staff and medical equipment, is already witnessing changes. Seventeen new doctors have been appointed—four for the main hospital and 13 across block-level health centres. A new doctor has also been posted to operate the long-awaited sonography machine, which is expected to become functional shortly.

Block Medical Officer Dr Amit Mathur said, “A proposal has been submitted to increase the hospital capacity from 100 to 220 beds. We’ve also recommended the opening of 15 new sub-health centres and the development of facilities in Jawar, Siddhiganj, and Bhanwara.”

The 30-bed hospital in Jawar may also be upgraded to a 50-bed unit under the same development initiative.

Currently, the CT scan machine at the civil hospital remains non-functional, forcing patients to seek services at expensive private facilities. Dr Mathur said that the old tender for the machine was cancelled and a new one will be floated soon.

Local MLA Gopal Singh Engineer confirmed the developments and said the steps were being taken after consistent feedback from local residents and public representatives about poor medical services in the region.

The expansion and improved staffing are part of a broader state initiative, under which 789 doctors have been appointed across Madhya Pradesh.
