Illegal Organ Trade Exposed in Madanapalle

Tirupati: A 29-year-old woman died during an illegal kidney removal at Global Multi-Speciality Hospital in Madanapalle, Annamayya district, Andhra Pradesh, raising concerns about a suspected state-wide organ trade network. Authorities have sealed the hospital and taken twelve people, including two doctors, into custody.

Victim Lured Into Selling Kidney

The woman, a resident of Buddapalem village in Visakhapatnam, was allegedly promised Rs 8 lakh for her kidney. Reports suggest the hospital, which lacked official permission for organ transplants, performed the procedure with the help of guest doctors.

Tragic Outcome and Alleged Cover-Up

The kidney was reportedly transplanted into a man from Goa. By Monday morning, the woman’s condition deteriorated, and she passed away. Police alleged that hospital staff and brokers attempted to transport her body to Tirupati without informing her family, prompting her live-in partner and mother to alert authorities.

Police Action and Arrests

The Madanapalle II Town police, led by CI Raja Reddy, detained the live-in partner, brokers, two dialysis technicians, two government hospital staff, and a doctor connected to the hospital’s administration. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether official positions were misused to facilitate the illegal transplants.

Legal Proceedings Underway

Criminal cases have been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act. Authorities are awaiting the post-mortem report to proceed further.

State’s History of Illegal Kidney Trade

Andhra Pradesh has faced multiple illegal organ trade incidents in recent years, with previous cases in Guntur and Visakhapatnam revealing networks using forged documents and coercion to carry out unauthorized transplants.
