Newly elected APMC member to lead Foreign Medical Graduates Committee, focus on resolving FMG issues and strengthening action against quackery in Andhra Pradesh

The Andhra Pradesh Medical Council (APMC) has appointed Dr A. V. Subba Reddy as the Chairman of its Foreign Medical Graduates (FMG) Committee and also inducted him as a member of the Anti-Quackery Committee, assigning him key responsibilities in addressing issues related to foreign medical graduates and curbing illegal medical practice across the state.

The appointments were announced as part of the APMC’s decision to constitute nine special committees, with each committee comprising a chairman and two members to oversee specific areas of medical regulation and governance.

Dr Subba Reddy to Lead FMG Committee

Under the new committee structure, Dr A. V. Subba Reddy will head the Foreign Medical Graduates (FMG) Committee, which is expected to address regulatory and administrative concerns affecting foreign-trained doctors seeking to practice in Andhra Pradesh.

He has also been appointed as a member of the Anti-Quackery Committee, which is responsible for strengthening action against unqualified medical practitioners and protecting the quality of healthcare services in the state.

Appointment Follows APMC Election Victory

Dr Subba Reddy’s appointment comes after his victory in the Andhra Pradesh Medical Council elections, which were conducted on February 9, 2026.

Subsequently, during the council’s internal elections held on June 3, he was elected to the Working Committee after securing a 14-9 majority among the 23 members who participated in the voting process.

The appointments mark another significant responsibility for the newly elected council member within the state’s medical regulatory body.

Focus on Resolving Foreign Medical Graduates’ Issues

Speaking about his priorities as Chairman of the FMG Committee, Dr Subba Reddy said he intends to focus on addressing long-pending regulatory and administrative challenges faced by Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs).

According to him, several issues concerning FMGs have remained unresolved in recent years due to regulatory controversies, and his committee will work towards finding practical and permanent solutions.

He further stated that, if required, the committee would consult the National Medical Commission (NMC) in New Delhi while formulating appropriate guidelines to address the concerns of foreign medical graduates in accordance with existing regulations.

Anti-Quackery Committee to Intensify Action

As a member of the Anti-Quackery Committee, Dr Subba Reddy said his priority would be to strengthen efforts against quackery across Andhra Pradesh.

He stated that ensuring quality healthcare remains the committee’s primary objective and affirmed that he would work closely with fellow committee members to curb the activities of unqualified practitioners operating in the state.

Holds Several Leadership Positions

Apart from his responsibilities within the Andhra Pradesh Medical Council, Dr A. V. Subba Reddy currently serves as:

  • National Organisational Secretary of the Federation of Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association of India (FPHNAI)
  • State Vice-President of the Indian Medical Association (IMA)
  • Executive Member of the Kurnool Medical College Old Students’ Association

Background

The appointments come months after the Andhra Pradesh Medical Council conducted its long-awaited elections, ending a gap of nearly two decades in the council’s electoral process. The elections, held on February 9, 2026, paved the way for the formation of a new council and the constitution of specialised committees to strengthen medical regulation, governance and professional oversight across the state.
