Shimla, May 1 (PTI): Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday inaugurated the In-Patient Department (IPD) at the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialties (AIMSS) in Chamiyana, announcing that it will be the first hospital in Himachal Pradesh to introduce robotic surgery, followed soon by Tanda Hospital in Kangra.
To ease the burden on Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital (IGMCH) Shimla and enhance healthcare delivery, several departments—including gastroenterology, nephrology, and plastic surgery—have been shifted to AIMSS, also known as Chamiyana Super Specialty Hospital.
Robotic surgery, the CM noted, would provide significant advantages such as greater precision, faster recovery, minimal pain, and shorter hospital stays due to its minimally invasive nature.
In the next two months, cardiology and cardiothoracic and vascular surgery (CTVS) departments will also be relocated to AIMSS. The hospital, with a 337-bed capacity, features high-end operation theatres and a cardiac catheterisation lab, and is expected to become fully operational within six months.
The Chief Minister also directed the Public Works Department to improve the approach road to the hospital and emphasized ongoing efforts to modernize all medical colleges, zonal, and regional hospitals across the state to ensure world-class healthcare.
