₹180 crore institute under construction, set to become a major hub for audiology, speech therapy, and research by October 2026
Uttar Pradesh is on track to gain national prominence in the field of speech and hearing sciences with the establishment of an **All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) Satellite Centre in Kanpur. The upcoming institute, currently under construction in the Surar region, is expected to be completed by October 31, 2026.
Major Healthcare Infrastructure Push in Uttar Pradesh
The project is being executed by NPCC Limited under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, with technical quality oversight provided by IIT (BHU) Varanasi.
Recently, District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh reviewed the construction progress and emphasized timely completion while maintaining high-quality standards. He also directed officials to ensure continuous monitoring of the project.
Second AIISH Facility in India, First in North
The Kanpur centre will serve as an extension of the Mysuru-based AIISH, reducing dependency on the existing institute in Mysuru. Spread across approximately 81,000 square meters, the institute is being built at an estimated cost of ₹180 crore.
Once completed, it will become the second AIISH facility in India and the first of its kind in North India, significantly improving access to specialised care.
Advanced Facilities for Treatment, Training & Research
The upcoming campus will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure modeled after the Mysuru institute, including:
- Advanced audiology laboratories
- Speech therapy and rehabilitation units
- Hearing assessment and diagnostic facilities
- Specialized education and research centres
Additionally, the institute will include hostel facilities for 204 students (102 boys and 102 girls), supporting learners from across the country.
Focus on Early Intervention and Pediatric Care
A key highlight of the institute is the Pre-Primary Unit, designed for early detection and management of speech and hearing disorders in children. This initiative aims to address developmental challenges at an early stage, improving long-term outcomes.
Construction of both the Medical Block and Pre-Primary Block is progressing at a steady pace.
Transforming Speech & Hearing Healthcare in India
The AIISH Satellite Centre in Kanpur is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening healthcare services, advancing research, and promoting specialized education in speech and hearing sciences.
With its completion, Uttar Pradesh will emerge as a major centre for audiology and speech therapy, bridging regional gaps and enhancing access to quality care across North India.
