A 72-year-old senior orthopaedic professor and founding director of AIIMS Patna has reported an alleged cyber fraud in which Rs 3.22 lakh was withdrawn from his bank account through multiple unauthorised transactions over a period of more than two months.
The doctor, who is currently working as an orthopaedic professor at a medical institute in Lucknow, noticed several transactions from his Indian Bank account that he said he had not authorised.
According to his complaint, a total of Rs 3,22,408 was withdrawn between July 3 and September 15.
Doctor Says He Did Not Share Banking Credentials
The suspected fraud came to light when the doctor reviewed his account and noticed multiple transactions that he did not recognise.
He told police that he had not shared his OTP, password or other confidential banking information with anyone.
The doctor subsequently reported the suspected cyber fraud through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal on September 18.
The complaint was later taken up by Mahanagar police, who registered a case under relevant provisions and initiated an investigation.
Police Trace Transaction and Digital Records
Investigators are examining the doctor’s bank statements and transaction records to determine how the withdrawals were carried out and where the money was transferred.
Police are also tracing the digital trail associated with the disputed transactions to identify the account holders and other individuals who may have been involved.
The investigation is being conducted by a police officer assigned to the case, with banking records and other available digital evidence being scrutinised.
Investigation Continues
The case involves multiple disputed transactions spread over more than two months, highlighting how unauthorised withdrawals carried out through repeated transactions may remain undetected until the account holder reviews the account activity.
