Certain batches of disposable syringes were recalled at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, in 2026 following quality-related complaints from user departments, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prataprao Jadhav informed the Rajya Sabha. The affected batches, manufactured by Noble Pharmacare Ltd. and Veekay Surgicals, were recalled as a precautionary measure to ensure patient safety.
Syringe Batches Recalled
Jadhav provided the information in a written reply to questions raised by MP Haris Beeran regarding the recall of disposable syringes at AIIMS New Delhi during 2026.
The Minister said the recall followed quality-related complaints received from user departments. He clarified that no adverse effects on patients have been reported due to the affected syringe batches.
The entire quantity of the default batches has been replaced with fresh batches, while show-cause notices have been issued to the two concerned firms.
Government Action on Quality Concerns
The Parliament was also informed about the action taken against the manufacturers and suppliers and the measures adopted to prevent similar incidents.
AIIMS New Delhi follows procurement and quality inspection procedures that include random sampling and inspection at the time of procurement and supply. An inspection committee compares supplied products with the samples submitted during the bidding process, and batches that do not conform to approved specifications are rejected.
Patient Safety and Quality Monitoring
Jadhav said AIIMS New Delhi has also established a specialised Patient Safety and Quality Cell to conduct root cause analysis of such incidents and recommend necessary interventions.
The Minister stated that the recall was undertaken as a precautionary measure to safeguard patients. The quality inspection mechanism is intended to identify and reject medical devices that fail to meet the approved specifications.
