The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Lt Gen (Retd) Narendra Kotwal as Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal and Dr Sanjeev Sinha as Executive Director of AIIMS Vijaypur (Samba), Jammu. The appointments were approved on the proposal of the Department of Health and Family Welfare and notified by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) through an order dated August 7, 2026.
New Executive Directors Appointed
Lt Gen (Retd) Narendra Kotwal, currently Director of Endocrinology at Paras Health, Panchkula, and former Director and Commandant of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, has been appointed Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal on a contract basis.
Dr Sanjeev Sinha, Professor and Head of the Department of Medicine at AIIMS New Delhi, has been appointed Executive Director of AIIMS Vijaypur (Samba), Jammu, on deputation.
Tenure and Terms of Appointment
The appointment of Dr Sanjeev Sinha has been made in Level 15 of the Pay Matrix. His tenure will be for three years from the date of assuming charge of the post, or until he attains the age of 70 years, or until further orders, whichever is earlier, as specified in the government order.
Copies of the appointment order were forwarded to the Prime Minister’s Office, Cabinet Secretariat and other concerned authorities for information and necessary action.
Focus on Leadership at AIIMS Institutions
The appointments are part of the Centre’s continuing efforts to strengthen leadership and administration at the country’s premier government medical institutions.
The appointments bring experienced medical and administrative leadership to AIIMS Bhopal and AIIMS Vijaypur, Jammu, as the institutions continue to develop their healthcare, academic and administrative capacities.
