Fire Breaks Out in AIIMS Bhubaneswar Nursing College Laboratory, No Casualties Reported
Bhubaneswar: Panic gripped the campus of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar on Friday after a massive fire broke out in a laboratory located on the fourth floor of the Nursing College building. The incident triggered an immediate emergency response, with multiple firefighting teams rushing to the scene to contain the blaze.
The Bhubaneswar Fire Station was alerted soon after the fire was detected, and firefighting personnel promptly launched rescue and containment operations. Additional support was provided by teams from the SFF CR, Tamando Fire Station, and the in-house fire safety unit of AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
Hundreds of Nursing Students Evacuated Safely
As flames intensified inside the laboratory, firefighters carried out a swift evacuation of students and staff present in the building. Hundreds of nursing students had a narrow escape as emergency responders safely evacuated all occupants, preventing any loss of life or injuries.
According to preliminary reports, furniture and laboratory materials were damaged in the fire. However, officials confirmed that no casualties or injuries have been reported.
Coordinated Firefighting Effort Prevents Major Disaster
Firefighters from multiple stations worked together for several hours to bring the situation under control. Officials stated that the fire was eventually extinguished through coordinated efforts, averting what could have been a major incident at one of Odisha’s premier healthcare and educational institutions.
A senior official told News18 that the prompt response of emergency services played a crucial role in preventing the fire from spreading further and ensured the safety of students and staff.
AIIMS Administration Orders Damage Assessment
Following the incident, the AIIMS Bhubaneswar administration stated that no major structural damage has been reported. A joint team from the concerned departments will conduct a detailed assessment of the affected area and investigate the cause of the fire.
The institute has also initiated an inspection of its security systems and firefighting infrastructure to evaluate preparedness and strengthen safety measures across the campus.

The exact cause of the fire remains unknown. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the origin of the blaze and assess the full extent of property damage. A comprehensive report is expected after the completion of the inquiry.
