Telangana State Medical Council sends notice

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Medical Council (TSMC) had sought an explanation from the Medical Director of the Maatlis Hospital on the issue of offering of training courses for unqualified persons by specialist doctors. The TSMC in its letter said “According to information circulating on phone messages, WhatsApp and other social media platforms, the hospital is conducting a training programme for unqualified persons by Dr Sandeep of the emergency medicine department, Dr Ravi Kumar Reddy, cardiologist and Dr Sai Krishna, general physician. Such a programme is illegal as per the National Medical Commission Act and also as per the TSMC Acts and asked the hospital for an explanation on offering training courses for unqualified persons by specialist doctors.”

“It is illegal as per the NMC Act, 2019, the Code of Professional Conduct, Etiquette and Ethics- Regulations, 2002 of NMC, which comes under unethical acts,” added the notice. The hospital was given a deadline of January 26 to send the explanation and TSMC also warned the hospital to cancel the proposed training course or face appropriate action. “No person other than a doctor having qualification recognized by Medical Council of India and registered with Medical Council of India/State Medical Council(s) is allowed to practice Modern system of Medicine or Surgery. A person obtaining a qualification in any other system of Medicine is not allowed to practice Modern system of Medicine in any form,” says the Code of Medical Ethics uploaded on the TSMC website.
