New Delhi: Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda has expressed readiness to support healthcare development initiatives in Tripura East Constituency, provided the state government includes relevant proposals under the prescribed framework.
Details of the Proposal
- BJP MP Kriti Devi Debbarma, representing the Tripura East Lok Sabha Constituency, requested the establishment of an AIIMS-like medical college hospital in the Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) region.
- In response, the Minister highlighted that under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), the government has already established an AIIMS in Guwahati, Assam, which is operational.
Healthcare Projects in Tripura
- Agartala Medical College: The institution has been upgraded under PMSSY with a Super Speciality Block, completed on a Center-State sharing basis.
- Future Possibilities: While there is no current plan for another AIIMS in Tripura, the Union Health Ministry has invited the state government to propose healthcare enhancement projects under the National Health Mission (NHM).
NHM Support Framework
- The Ministry provides financial and technical aid to states under NHM based on their Programme Implementation Plans (PIPs).
- Proposals must align with the NHM framework and the state’s overall resource envelope.
Minister’s Assurance
Union Minister Nadda emphasized the Ministry’s willingness to back healthcare initiatives if the state submits a relevant proposal. This commitment is seen as a positive step toward addressing the healthcare needs of the Tripura East region, especially in tribal areas.
