Tamil Nadu Health Dept. decides to withhold service quota in certain specialities

Leader of Opposition demands immediate withdrawal of the order

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Government Health Department has issued an GO which says that the number of seats reserved in the post graduate admissions for the service candidate will be decided dynamically on year to year basis which effectively will imply that the 50 percent seats reserved for the in-service doctors will not be there. The reason for issuing the GO is due to the saturation of vacancies in certain specialties. The GO further speaks about the service reservation in certain specialties being kept in abeyance for a year. Effectively the GO states that the number of seats reserved for MD & MS for the service candidates will be decided dynamically as per the availability of vacancies of year to year basis.

For the year FY 24-25, the service reservation of PG seats for specialties other than General Medicine, General Surgeon, Paeditrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecolgy, Orthopaedics, Anesthesiology, Chest Medicine, Radiology, Community Medicine have been kept in abeyance as per the dynamic availability system. Meanwhile the leader of opposition, in Taml Nadu, Edappadi K Palanswami has expressed shock over the GO issued and demanded the GO to be revoked immediately. He termed the move as the one which will destroy the dream of the doctors.
