An 18-year-old girl died at Bhapur Community Health Centre (CHC) in Nayagarh district on Tuesday after her condition allegedly deteriorated following medical treatment, prompting protests by her family and local residents. The family has alleged that she was administered a wrong injection and that medical negligence may have contributed to her death, while authorities are awaiting the postmortem report to establish the exact cause.

Girl Taken to CHC After Fever

The girl, a resident of Golapokhari village in Bhapur block, had reportedly been suffering from fever since Sunday. As her condition did not improve, her family took her to Bhapur CHC for treatment on Tuesday morning.

After examining her, a doctor reportedly administered an injection. Her condition allegedly worsened shortly afterwards. According to her family, her condition deteriorated rapidly after a second round of saline and another injection were administered, following which she began screaming.

She subsequently died at the health centre.

Family Alleges Wrong Injection

Following the death, the girl’s family accused the doctor of administering the wrong injection and alleged that medical negligence had resulted in her death. The allegations led to protests at the hospital, with local residents also joining the family.

Bhapur Community Health Centre Chief Medical Officer Biswanath Sahoo said the treatment was provided based on the patient’s complaints and illness. He also said the family had been given details of all injections and medicines administered to the girl.

As tension escalated at the hospital premises, the doctor reportedly left the facility.

Police Investigation Underway

After receiving information about the incident, a police team from Fatehgarh police station reached the hospital and initiated an investigation. The girl’s body was sent for postmortem.

Police said the precise cause of death would be established after the autopsy report. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the injection or any other treatment administered at the CHC was responsible for the death.

The investigation will examine the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death and the allegations of medical negligence.
