AP Junior Doctors Begin Phase 1 Strike Over Pending Stipend Revision, FAIMA Extends Support
Andhra Pradesh junior doctors have sought a 30% stipend hike, while the proposal currently being offered is reportedly limited to 3%.
The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has extended its solidarity and support to the Andhra Pradesh Junior Doctors’ Association (AP JUDA) as the association began Phase 1 of its strike on August 11, 2026, over its long-pending demand for a stipend revision.
The strike follows repeated representations and negotiations that failed to resolve the issue. According to FAIMA, junior doctors have sought a 30% hike in stipend, while the proposal currently being offered is only 3%.
AP JUDA Seeks 30% Stipend Hike
AP JUDA had earlier deferred its proposed strike for one week following written assurances and an invitation for talks from the Director of Medical Education (DME) on stipend revision. The association said the decision was taken to provide an opportunity for constructive dialogue with senior health officials.
However, the association clarified that the temporary postponement did not amount to a withdrawal of its demand for a fair revision of stipends.
Other Demands Raised by Junior Doctors
AP JUDA has also raised several other demands, including implementation of the revised stipend with effect from January 1, 2026.
The association has sought strict adherence to National Medical Commission (NMC) regulations regarding the recruitment of non-medical faculty, including candidates holding MSc and PhD qualifications.
The association has also opposed any proposal to increase the retirement age, maintaining that the existing retirement age of 65 years should remain unchanged.
FAIMA Urges Meaningful Dialogue
FAIMA said the concerns of interns, postgraduate students, super-speciality postgraduate students, senior residents and other resident doctors should not be ignored.
The association urged the authorities to initiate meaningful dialogue with the protesting doctors and resolve their concerns at the earliest.
“Residents are the backbone of healthcare delivery. Their dignity, rights and welfare matter,” FAIMA said while expressing its support for AP JUDA.
Medicopenia Also Extends Support
In a recent post on X, Medicopenia also extended its support to AP JUDA and urged the authorities to hold meaningful dialogue with the protesting doctors and resolve the stipend-related issues at the earliest.
