Dehradun – The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has appointed Dr. Manoj Kumar Verma, a senior official from the Uttarakhand Medical Council, as a part-time member of the National Medical Commission (NMC), marking a significant recognition of his contributions to public health.
Currently serving as the Senior District Tuberculosis Officer in Dehradun under the National Health Mission (NHM), Dr. Verma brings over 16 years of experience in healthcare management, policy implementation, and public health program evaluation. He began his medical career as a Medical Officer on February 8, 2008.
Throughout his career, Dr. Verma has played crucial roles in various health initiatives across Uttarakhand. He has served as Medical Officer for Health and Sanitation in the Haridwar Municipal Corporation and contributed significantly to the National AIDS Control Programme in Haridwar, Tehri, and Dehradun. He also held the post of Additional Chief Medical Officer in Tehri Garhwal, overseeing NHM and district health administration.
His leadership spans a wide range of public health programs including immunization drives, leprosy elimination, viral hepatitis control, and AIDS awareness. Dr. Verma has also been designated as Mela Adhikari for the upcoming Ardh Kumbh Mela 2027 in Haridwar, an event involving massive public health planning and execution.
In addition to his new role with the NMC, he serves as a State Executive Member of the Uttarakhand Red Cross Society, further highlighting his dedication to community health and service.
Speaking to Doctor Post, Dr. Verma addressed a critical concern: “The most pressing problem in the health sector is violence against healthcare professionals. Authorities must ensure the safety of on-duty working professionals. I am glad to be a part of the apex medical body, and I will try to do my level best to work for improving the health sector.”
