Pune : The ongoing investigation into the prenatal death of Tanisha Bhise at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital hinges on the findings of the fourth inquiry committee’s report, according to Rupali Chakankar, Chairperson of the Maharashtra State Women’s Commission. The report, which is expected soon, will play a crucial role in determining whether there was medical negligence and if an FIR will be filed against the hospital.
Key Updates:
- Chakankar emphasized the significance of the fourth committee’s report, which will assess if medical negligence occurred, especially since three earlier reports have pointed fingers at the hospital’s actions.
- The fourth inquiry is led by the Medical Superintendent of Sassoon Hospital, and the committee is in its final stages of evaluation, with a report to be submitted to both the Directorate of Medical Education and the police by Wednesday.
- So far, three committees have submitted their findings:
- The public health department’s report implicated the hospital for refusing Bhise admission.
- A report from the Joint Charity Commissioner investigated whether the hospital complied with regulations under the Bombay Public Trusts Act.
- The Pune Municipal Corporation reviewed the maternal death and submitted a report.
Allegations Against the Hospital:
- Chakankar further claimed that Bhise was prepped for surgery before being told to leave the hospital, contradicting the hospital’s statement that she was never admitted.
- Dr. Dhananjay Kelkar, Medical Director of the hospital, had clarified earlier that Bhise was never admitted.
- Tanisha Bhise’s family has filed a complaint with the Alankar Police on April 9, demanding action against the hospital and its staff for the alleged medical negligence.
Next Steps:
- The final inquiry report will be critical in determining whether the case will move forward legally.
- The Women’s Commission has committed to advocating for justice and ensuring that such an incident does not occur again.
