Andhra Pradesh is set to strengthen its medical education and healthcare infrastructure with the announcement of a ₹50 crore Knowledge Hub at Kurnool Medical College. The project, backed by funding support from overseas doctors, aims to enhance academic resources and modernize facilities for students and healthcare professionals.

Knowledge Hub and Digital Library to Boost Medical Education

Industries, Commerce, and Food Processing Minister TG Bharat revealed that a state-of-the-art knowledge centre along with a digital library will be developed within the college campus. The facility will be constructed on 70 cents of land and is expected to significantly improve academic infrastructure, offering advanced learning resources to medical students.

The initiative reflects the government’s broader push to modernize healthcare education and integrate digital learning into medical institutions.

New VRDL Lab Strengthens Diagnostic Capabilities

In a parallel development, a Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) building has been inaugurated at the college. Built at a cost of ₹66 lakh with financial assistance from the Central Government, the lab was completed within six months.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Hospital Superintendent Dr Kurukunda Venkateswarlu and Medical College Principal Dr Chitti Lakshminarasamma, among others.

The VRDL facility is expected to enhance the institution’s ability to diagnose viral diseases and respond effectively to public health challenges.

CSR Funds to Improve Hospital Infrastructure

Highlighting ongoing development efforts, Minister TG Bharat stated that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds will be utilized to procure essential medical equipment such as ventilators and ultrasound machines. Additionally, repair and reinforcement work is underway for 21 vulnerable hospital buildings to ensure patient and staff safety.

Government General Hospital Sees Heavy Patient Footfall

Member of Parliament Bastipati Nagaraju emphasized that the Government General Hospital associated with the college has emerged as one of the leading public healthcare centres in the state. The hospital caters to thousands of outpatients daily, underlining its critical role in the region’s healthcare delivery system.

State Push for AYUSH Healthcare Expansion

Earlier, Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav announced that 150 AYUSH health centres across the state are being modernized at a cost of ₹44 crore. The initiative aims to expand access to traditional Indian medicine and improve healthcare services in both rural and urban areas.

This combined push for infrastructure development, digital learning, and diagnostic advancement marks a significant step toward strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s healthcare ecosystem.
