A woman doctor working in the ENT department of Jagjivan Ram Hospital was found dead under suspicious circumstances in her room, sending shockwaves through the hospital community. The incident came to light on Wednesday after the doctor failed to report to the operation theatre for her scheduled surgeries.
Doctor Failed to Reach Operation Theatre
According to hospital authorities and Mumbai Police, the doctor had several pre-planned surgeries scheduled for the day. When she did not arrive at the operation theatre at the designated time, her colleagues grew concerned. Repeated attempts were made to contact her on her mobile phone, but she did not respond.
Body Discovered Inside Room on Fourth Floor
As the situation appeared unusual, a junior doctor went to check on her in her room located on the fourth floor of the hospital premises. After knocking on the door multiple times and receiving no response, the junior doctor looked through the glass panel of the door and noticed the doctor lying on the floor near a chair.
The hospital administration was immediately informed, and senior doctors rushed to the room. After examining her, they confirmed that she had died.
Police Register ADR, Begin Investigation
Following the incident, a team from Tardeo Police Station reached the hospital to inspect the scene and conduct a panchnama. Police registered a case under the Accidental Death Report (ADR) category and began a detailed investigation.
Preliminary findings revealed that the door of the room was locked from the inside, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding the death.
CCTV Footage Seized, Post-Mortem Conducted
Police later sent the body for a post-mortem examination at Sir J. J. Hospital. After the procedure was completed, the body was handed over to the doctor’s family.
Investigators have also seized CCTV footage from various locations within the hospital, including cameras installed on the fourth floor, to reconstruct the sequence of events.
Hospital Staff in Shock
The sudden death of the doctor has created an atmosphere of shock and anxiety among doctors and hospital staff. Officials stated that the exact cause of death will only be known after the post-mortem report is released, and police are currently probing the case from all possible angles.
